About

"The point is, animation is not a genre.  It is a method of storytelling.  People are constantly analyzing it and mis-analyzing it as if it is a genre.  It isn't a genre.  It can do horror films, it can do adult comedies if it wanted to, it could do fairy tales, it could do science fiction, it could do musicals, it could do mystery, it can do anything."

As the title states, this blog is dedicated to the thing I love most: Animation.  I am truly addicted to animation.  I have been my entire life.  I believe it to be the most amazing, most beautiful art form.  It brings out emotions in me that live action doesn't.  I love learning about it's history, the people involved, the methods used in making animation, the conceptual art, everything.

My goal here, in addition to reviewing and commenting on animation, is to be a voice for animation.  One thing that frustrates me more than anything is the widespread belief that animation is a genre for children.  Not only is it completely false, but it's also pretty insulting.  As the great Brad Bird says, animation is a medium, not a genre.  Yes, there is animated entertainment for children (same as there is live action entertainment for children), but to say that all is animation for children is ridiculous.  This especially applies to the vast majority of theatrical animation.  Those films aren't for kids, they're for everyone!  Everyone can enjoy the films, learn from them, and relate to them.  The beauty of animation, like Brad Bird says, is that it can do anything, from comedy (Despicable Me) to westerns (Rango) to action (The Incredibles) to romance (Beauty and the Beast) to drama (The Clone Wars).  The possibilities are endless!

So as the description says, I'll be bringing you reviews, rants, and news.  I'll blog about any history, making of animation, and artist interviews that I find.  You can also expect top 10 lists top pop up from time to time (I really love those!).

And now a little bit about me...I was exposed to Disney and Looney Tunes at a very young age, and have loved and watched them ever since.  About the time I started high school, I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life.  I started thinking about animation, but I wasn't sure I wanted to go into traditional animation.  At the time, the only job I was really interested in was the animation part of the process but I knew I didn't have the right skills and mindset to draw all day.  Then, I saw Monsters Inc, and my life completely changed.  It was like being hit by lightning.  Everything about that film was just so amazing.  I knew then that I wanted to go into computer animation.  I went to college, ended up studying 3D Modeling, graduated, and now here I am.  My ultimate goal in life is to work for one of the big animation studios.  Until then, I'm completely dedicated to learning about the amazing art of animation.
