The Clone Wars Lives On Through 'Legacy' Series

The televisions series may have ended with Season 6 "The Lost Missions", but there were still plenty of Clone Wars stories that had been written and were waiting to be told.  Last week, Lucasfilm announced that those stories would not be locked away forever, but would be told through other mediums.  Rejoice, fellow Star Wars fans, The Clone Wars lives!!!

Beware: there are some spoilers for previous Clone Wars episodes below!

A couple of these stories had already been announced, such as the upcoming comic Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, set to be released October 17, 2014.  Son of Dathomir picks up the story of Darth Maul from where we last saw the character in The Clone Wars.   Originally intended to be a four episode arc in Season 6, the comic was released as a four part mini-series earlier in the year.  Because Maul is such a physical character, he's perfect for a comic series.  And it's not just Maul we'll be seeing in this comic; Mother Talzin, leader of the Nightsister Witches of Dathomir returns as well!  Maybe we'll finally get the answer to why she unleashed Maul back onto the galaxy...

The second entry into the legacy series, a novel starring Asajj Ventress, was previously announced at Comic Con earlier this year.  The novel is set to be released in the summer of 2015.  In this story, the Jedi decide to make a move directly against Dooku and send Jedi Master Quinlan Vos to seek out Ventress, who is now a bounty hunter, for information.  She was once Dooku's apprentice, so she knows more about him than anyone else, except for maybe Darth Sidious.

Quinlan manages to locate Ventress, and needless to say...sparks fly between the two of them.  Quinlan is unlike any other Jedi Ventress has met, and it is a real shame that these episodes never made it through production.  A Vos/Ventress team up would be so much fun to watch!

The newest story to be announced is a four episode arc focusing on Anakin and Obi-Wan investigating a mystery on Utupau.  The Utupau episodes didn't make it to the final animation stages of production, so they're only partly finished, but still cool to watch and integral to the story of Star Wars.  The Lucasfilm decided to release this story as unfinished episodes rather than adapting it into a comic or novel because they wanted to preserve the voicework done by Matt Lanter (voice of Anakin Skywalker) and James Arnold Taylor (voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi), who have always had a great repartee with each other as these characters.

The story is meant to be a throwback to the fun, original trilgoy Star Wars action adventure.  But it's not all fun, as the real reason for Anakin and Obi-Wan's arrival on Utupau is the death of a fellow Jedi investigating a powerful Separatist mystery weapon.  Plus, one of the episode brings up an important issue that we didn't get to see in The Lost Missions episodes: Anakin's feelings about Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order.

Be sure to visit the offical Star Wars website to watch these new Clone Wars episodes!  The episode order goes "A Death on Utupau", "In Search of the Crystal", "Crystal Crisis", and "The Big Bang."  You can also find more concept art for all three of these story arcs on the official website.

And be sure to check out the video for more details from Dave Filoni, Clone Wars writer Matt Michnovetz, among others, on all three of these untold Clone Wars stories!

The exciting thing about this news is that Lucasfilm recognizes that the fans want these stories to see the light of day.  This is just the beginning!!!  Hopefully that Cad Bane/Boba Fett story arc that was hinted at several times when series was still running isn't too far down the road...
