'Book of Life' Trailer & Images Are A Feast For The Eyes

The first trailer for The Book of Life arrived today...and it is GORGEOUS.

Just...wow.  WOW.  I don't know what else to say!!  Everything looks so beautiful!  And so different.  I love seeing different visual styles in animation, and this is truly something we've never seen 3D animation try before.  I just love the fact that the characters are designed like wooden puppets with painted textures.  And the Land of the Remembered in all of it's Day of the Dead flair is just stunning.  I can't get enough of it!  It's hard to believe that this is the same studio that brought us Free Birds last year.

Courtesy of Cartoon Brew and USA Today, some very lovely stills from the film were also released.  There's so many great details in all of these pictures.  Of all the characters, I think my favorite is the goddess La Muerte.  She is just stunning!

In addition to releasing the trailer, Reel FX also launched the official website for the film, where you can learn a little more about the characters and places you see in the film.  There's also a great article on USA Today with some great insight from director Jorge Gutierrez.  Apparantly, Gutierrez has been trying to make this movie for years, but was told over and over that it would never work...until he ran into producer Guillermo del Torro.  Thank goodness that happened, because this film looks absolutely amazing!

Official synopsis for The Book of Life:

"The film is described as the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart.  Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible journey that spans three fantastical worlds, where  he must face his greatest fears."

The Book of Life will be released to theaters on October 17th, 2014.
