New Images From Big Hero 6

I was going to talk about something else today...but then something big came up...

Yeah, I know, lame pun...but I couldn't resist!  Because this is big news...we have our first official look at the main characters of Big Hero 6!!

Big Hero 6 takes place in the fictional city of San Fransokyo, a cultural mash up of San Francisco and Tokyo.  It's about a teenage genius inventor named Hiro Hamata and his quest to find his brother's murderer.  He turns his nurse robot called Baymax into a crime fighting ally and teams up with a group of his brother's nerdy (nerdy in that they love science), inexperienced crime-fighting friends to uncover a criminal plot involving his brother's death.  For those of you who don't know, the film is actually based on the really obscure Big Hero 6 comics created by Marvel, making this film the first collaboration between Marvel and the Disney animation studio.

According to this article on Screen Rant, the first teaser for the film will be released to the internet on Thursday!!  But in the meantime, Disney has unveiled these lovely images of Hiro and Baymax:

It's not quite what I expected, but that's not a bad thing...I think it looks great!  I love how Nurse Baymax looks like a giant marshmallow before Hiro gives him his badass upgrade.  As for Hiro himself, I like the shrimpy, scruffy look they gave him.  According to the directors Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), the unexpected bond that Hiro forms with Baymax is the heart of the movie.

Well, I am so stoked for this film!  It's nice to see Disney branching out into other directions instead of just sticking to the fairytale genre.  I love superheroes, I love Marvel, and I love Disney animation, so this just seems like the perfect combination.  And if this film does well, that opens the door to more collaborations between the two studios in the future!

Are you excited about Big Hero 6?  If so, be sure to come back Thursday for the trailer!  In the meantime, if you want to know a  little more about the characters and the plot, check out this inside scoop courtesy of The Rotoscopers!  But beware...there are minor spoilers...
